This blog will be about my left ankle, everything from the initial injury to the current situation(TTR surgery April 8th, 2009) and I will update after the surgery during my recovery.
Here's a little background info on how it all started.
About 4.5- 5yrs ago I got clipped by a horses hoof while leading him. He clipped the inside of my left ankle, it swelled up and was bruised for about a week. The bruising went away, the swelling went down but not all the way, there was a small round swelling about the size of a quarter. I had quite a bit of pain for about 2 weeks and then it seem to go away for the most part. I did notice it would flare up every now and then but it wasn't too bad.
I never really thought much of it over the years but obviously that was stupid, I should have got it checked out ASAP! In the past 6-9months the pain has been very bad, sometimes to the point of having to hobble around.
I decided to go get it checked out in Nov 2008 and thats where things started to unfold ---- there really was something to this injury.
First thing Dr's wanted to do was Xrays, so we did that and they came back clear --I was relieved as I worried that maybe there was a bone chip or something.
Dr said to try to give the foot as much rest as possible to see if that would make a difference, as well I started taking some Naproxen anti-infammatories to see if that would help reduce the swelling and pain. I started the Naproxen but couldn't handle how it upset my stomach(even taking it with food) and so I stopped taking it.
I went back to the Dr at the beginning of January 2009 to see what the next step was, at that time the Dr decided to try a cortisone shot. That hurt so much, it made the pain so much worse for about 4 days! YOUCH! I went back to the Dr on day 7 as he wanted to do a follow up and see how things looked.
There was no improvement and so the Dr said he didn't want to do anything else(he didn't specialize in ankle injuries), that he would refer me to an ankle specialist.

Hi, I am 32, female and live in Australia.
ReplyDeleteI have been diagnosed with TTS yesterday1 I ahev ahd problems for at elats 3 years looking back maybe longer! I have been to to 'torture' chamber as yiou called it and yes it really does hurt!!! I have actually had the operation 4 years ago for Carpal Tunnel syndrom so I knew what to expect at least! I just cant believe it is happening again but in my foot! it sounds like it is a long recovery rate for TTS. I healed very well with carpal tunnel just the 2 weeks with stiches and then jus very weak for quite a while I even traveled overseas just 6 weeks after and coped very well! I am just a little concerned with the operation. I work in child care... and not quite sure hiow long I will need off woerk. But thank you for posting what you have been through it has been very interesting to read and givess me more understanding!
